Our Mission The mission of the Ohio Valley Educational Cooperative (OVEC) is to provide “high quality services and programs that support, empower and build capacity in school learning communities, thereby benefiting children, families and the community in their roles to ensure that students achieve their highest academic, social and emotional potential.” It is well documented that children’s health is highly correlated with school attendance and academic performance. Communities depend upon the public schools to develop competent, strong, and productive citizens. Children who are healthy and present in school perform better in the classroom for several reasons including fewer illnesses, better concentration, higher self-esteem, stronger connections to others, greater capacity to comprehend content and learning methods, and exhibit mental alertness. It is in the interest of schools, communities, and policy-makers to understand the conditions that are conducive to children’s academic success. With this mission in mind, teachers, principals, parents and community members unite to support all children with the chance of achieve success. The overall mission of Project BALANCE is to help schools promote lifelong healthy habits for students. |
